A Story About Newborn Pictures by Arizona Photographer Elaine Kessler

I like meeting brand new people – they are full of possibility and potential and make incredible subjects for amazing photography!  Little A and her gorgeous family were terrific to capture and I am stunned by the incredible newborn pictures we were able to create together.  Here’s what made their session so remarkable:

We shot inside the home where everyone was comfortable to address everyone’s individual needs as they arose and where all supplies were available as needed.  We set up a couple of strobes and a few softboxes and we shot indoors the entire session.  We blocked off a few hours so C could nurse A as needed without the pressure of having to be done at a certain time.  This works well for most newborn picture sessions.

C, A’s Mom, is a goddess to begin with and then she was freshly made up and willing to be photographed in a variety of intimate poses that made for spectacular story telling.

M, A’s Dad, is a tattoo artist and a body modification expert so he was stunning too!

K and S, A’s sisters, were available for some family photographs and as a group, we made some great images.

M’s Mom was on the scene to help out as needed.  This was super helpful for managing the other kids in the brood while we worked exclusively with C and A.

Props were kept to a minimum – this is my preference and my style.  While I am not opposed to some props being used, I feel strongly that the composition of an image be focused on the quality of interactions and the nature of human expressions.  The main props were a nice bed and a nice large chair.

Newborn pictures celebrate a new life and new journeys, one for the baby and one for the family.  To be included to capture in these moments is a privilege and a true pleasure.
