Maternity photography offers some of the most magnificent opportunities for beautiful pictures. This couple is very special to me and being able to document this time in their lives meant a lot to me both personally and professionally. This gorgeous couple, B & K, flew me out to North Carolina to capture their first pregnancy and the maternity photography we created together makes my heart sing.
Even though there’s 3K miles between us, K and I worked closely, and virtually, to style the session. She texted me images of maternity dresses she liked and I weighed in in real time so that she could make shopping decisions. We bought some jewelry together to accent the colors of the dress.
We scouted an entire day to get the best scenic locations for their area. I feel strongly about scouting out great, and largely untapped, locations – no matter where I happen to be. While I do think that I can make most locations work for a great session, there is something magical that happens when a subject is styled just so; we shoot at the right time of day; and we have a backdrop to die for.
K & B were up for most anything. They didn’t want anything too cliché (yay) and they were willing to try a lot of different things.
Between the colors of the environment, K’s dress and their willingness to be creative, we were able to create some images that are entirely among my favorite maternity photographs to date.
We also shot for 2 days taking advantage of both morning and afternoon golden light in several different locations.
We shot all of these images in natural light.
