Songbird Concert Series – Concert Photography in Phoenix

In spring 2013, I photographed the Songbird Concert Series.  Great local bands and the Phoenix community took over a green area on Roosevelt Row.

What I love about these images is that they tell a story about people being with what they love – for the musicians, it is their music; for the audience, it is their community.

Roosevelt Row is a vibrant, fun area in downtown Phoenix boasting a scene for even the most eclectic of sensibilities.  Hosted by Songbird Coffee & Tea House, the concert series brought people together to celebrate lovely spring evenings in Arizona, fun local musicians, and an engaged and diverse community.

Event photography is one of my favorite genres to shoot since it’s all about capturing people in their element.  Tapping into the energy of the event and the vibe of the crowd to find the best moments to capture is all part of the allure of photographing events for me.

This series started at sunset and went well after dark.  I tried shooting with off camera flash for the first concert and realized I couldn’t get what I wanted that way so I shot with flash on the camera and some with what little ambient light existed at the venue.  It was neat to get the city lights in front of the bands.

I love Phoenix and I love all the opportunities to capture interesting happenings around town.
