M is a beautiful young woman who wanted a last minute high school senior portraits session right before graduation. I usually like to meet with clients, especially seniors, in advance of a session but time was short so we met on the day of the shoot and found we worked pretty well together!
We shot at sunset in downtown Gilbert as well as at nearby popular Freestone Park. M wanted a little urban and a little nature so we split the time and the looks between the two locations.
High school seniors are a ton of fun to work with. They are on the cusp of experiencing all that’s exciting in the world and they are eager to live out loud! I found M’s style refreshing and sweet. I thought she conveyed a sense of hope and maturity that comes with graduating from high school.
M took coaching well and was eager to have a good time during her senior photography session.
What worked well for M’s senior pictures:
STYLE: M was confident in her looks and her style and that translated well into her images. She chose colors that worked well for her coloring and for photography. She followed EKP’s Styling Tips.
LOCATION: Shooting in 2 locations gave M’s senior portraits some variety and dimension. We shot in shade and in full light (when the sun was low in the sky). We got architecture and trees for 2 wonderfully rich sets of images.
TIMING: The golden light at sunset was wonderful to work with and even though it took some hustling to shoot in both locations, we got great senior pictures.
ASSISTANCE: Her grandmother joined us for the shoot and cheered her on which I think helped to boost her confidence as well. Also, grandma was able to help carry M’s things – an extra set of hands during photo sessions is always great!
